Beach and Water Activities

Every beach in Costa Rica is a public beach. However, some beaches are a little more private than others based on location and size. Depending on your preferences and the water activities you’d like to enjoy – fishing, kayaking, jet skiing, banana boating, snorkeling, diving, boogie boarding, surfing or swimming – we can assist you in rentals and with driving directions.

Bird Watching

Costa Rica is home to more than 800 species of birds including the famous toucan. Right here at El Verde Misterioso you will see several different types of birds, but if you want a more serious bird watching experience inquire about a nature walk in Ocotal or other hikes and tours elsewhere in the Guanacaste region.

Boat Tours

Party boats, sunset cruises, deep sea fishing, sailing, scuba and snorkeling trips … you name the boat tour, Coco’s got it. Boat tour prices start at $30 and can be arranged on short notice. If you are lucky you may even see whales, dolphins, manta rays, tuna, and turtles while out at sea.

Canopy Tour Zip Line

Coco Beach is in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, which is known for its beautiful dry canopy forest. There is no better way to see the wildlife and the vegetation than from the great heights of a canopy tour. This is one of the most popular things to do in Costa Rica and we have several canopy tour companies nearby, many of which will include zip lines, suspension bridges, monkey sightings, and more.

Gaming and Casinos

Gambling is legal in Costa Rica so you may find casinos in many local hotels and resorts. The game rules here are a little different than back home so we recommend you do your research before playing in any casino seriously.

Golf

Some of the major resorts have their own golf courses, but we recommend the Papagayo Golf & Country Club, which is just outside of Playas del Coco. This is an 18-hole course that offers rental equipment, a driving range, pro shop, and discounts for large groups.

Let us make the tee time reservations for you to take advantage of our corporate discount.

Hiking

Many visitors are surprised by the mountains and hills here in Costa Rica. The things to do in these dense, hilly jungles are almost limitless. Right here on at El Verde Misterioso there are several hiking trails to enjoy.

Horse Back Riding

Horseback riding is still a common form of transportation in Costa Rica. It’s likely you will see horses tied to posts outside of town and farmers making their way down the road on horseback.

For tourists, there’s no better way to see the beaches, volcanoes, and national parks than on horse back. Ask us about the best, animal friendly equestrian tours in Guanacaste.

Hot Springs, Mud Bath, and Spa

Near both Rincon de la Vieja (1-2 hours from El Verde Misterioso) and Arenal Volcano (4 hours from El Verde Misterioso) you will find hot spring pools, mud baths, and a variety of spas. The mud bath experience is a common thing to do in Costa Rica for all visitors. We suggest you try it.

If you’d prefer to stay home, a personal massage, pedicure, and other spa treatments can be arranged at your personal villa. Just ask us how.

Off Roading

In Costa Rica, some might joke that even in-town driving feels a bit like off-roading. If you enjoy being in the wilderness on rough terrain, then Costa Rica is an ideal destination for you. Nearby Santa Rosa National Park and the infamous “Monkey Trail” offer a great rugged, four-wheel experience.

Scuba Diving and Snorkeling

A boat tour can be arranged for both scuba diving and snorkeling excursions or you can head to a nearby beach for quality snorkeling and other water activities. If you don’t have your own equipment, there are several shops that specialize in water activities and equipment rentals in Coco Beach and the surrounding communities.

Shopping

A favorite thing to do in Costa Rica has to be the shopping. In downtown Coco you’ll find tourist shops and an open air market. If you are out and about, we also recommend the Information Center on the way to the Liberia Airport as well as the other large souvenir shops on the Pan-American Highway.

Surfing

In less than an hour’s drive, you’ll arrive at Playas Grande and Tamarindo where most surfing in the Guanacate region takes place. Equipment rentals and lessons are affordable, and tours of internationally famous surf locations (Ollie’s and Witches points, for instance) are available.

See this waterfall at Rincon de la Vieja, a Costa Rican national park less than 2 hours from El Verde Misterioso.

Waterfalls

When people think of Costa Rica they often think of volcanoes and waterfalls. Fortunately for us, we have both within a very short distance. During the rainy season there is a waterfall on property, but at any time of year the Llano de Cortes Waterfall is a beautiful respite from the heat. With an easy-to-swim pool of water and a shaded, sandy beach, we suggest this water activity to all of our guests.

Whitewater Rafting, Kayaking

The best time for whitewater rafting is during the green season, however, if you’re willing to take a little drive there is whitewater rafting and kayaking to be done year round. The most well-known river for whitewater rafting in Guanacaste has to be the Rio Corobici.

Before you schedule your water activities, ask us about special tours and pricing.

Yoga

Most mornings you can make your way to a yoga class in either Coco Beach or Hermosa Beach. These yoga classes are suitable for all fitness levels and are a guaranteed great way to start your day right.
